OUMC Adult Patient Tower
OU Medicine, Inc. (OUM) is a not-for profit, leading teaching health care system based in Oklahoma City. As home to Oklahoma’s only Level 1 Trauma Center, the University of Oklahoma Medical Center (OUMC) provides in-house expertise to treat the most traumatic and complex injuries.
Johnson was selected by OUM to lead the overall planning and coordination effort necessary to develop and implement a transition and occupation plan for the Adult Patient Tower, increasing the capacity and technology to care for those with the most severe injuries. This plan included planning for the physical relocation of people, equipment and departments as well the relocation of patient care units, patients and their families. The scope of the project was the largest hospital expansion project in Oklahoma history and one of the largest in the nation— including an eight-floor 401,900 SF penthouse tower that connects to 100,300 SF of phased renovation on various floors of the existing facility. Despite numerous challenges presented during the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, OUM and Johnson successfully transitioned operations while minimally affecting daily operations and also keeping the patient population safe and cared for.
