Our Work
Rusk State Hospital
Established in 1919, Rusk State Hospital is an inpatient hospital providing psychiatric treatment and care, including maximum-security forensic psychiatric services, for adults. The existing hospital was more than 100 years old and was deteriorating to the touch. Six buildings were demolished to make room for the new state-of-the-art, modernized facility, which houses 100 maximum security beds and 100 non-maximum security beds. The new Rusk State Hospital also provides more lighting, space, and rooms for one patient, as opposed to multiple patients sharing rooms. The complex also includes a theater, music room, beauty salon, canteen, library, gym, greenhouse and teaching kitchen. Johnson worked directly with all of the project stake holders to ensure a successful move into the new unit and an operational plan for “Patient Go Live.”
