UAB Medicine Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility
Since its founding in 1964, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Spain Rehabilitation Center has been nationally recognized as one of the Southeast’s foremost providers of comprehensive rehabilitation care for spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries as well as general rehab services. To expand their reach as leaders at the forefront of care, UAB sought a state-of-the-art hospital to provide advanced, personalized rehabilitation services that puts patients on a path to recovery and lifelong wellness.
The new 11-story inpatient rehabilitation facility includes 155,000 SF for support and 80,000 SF for parking, 78 inpatient rehabilitation beds, 28 acute care neurology beds, a 200-car parking deck, and 30 Med Surge beds. It also focuses on neurorehabilitation for patients after a stroke, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury. The new facility includes a seizure monitoring unit that offers clinical, research and education services to patients with epilepsy.
