Our Work
University Health System Women’s & Children’s Tower
University Health System (UHS) is staffed by the faculty of UT Health San Antonio and houses the only Level-1 Trauma Center in South Texas. Johnson was selected to coordinate the delivery, installation, and commissioning of the Medical Equipment, Furniture/Fixtures/Equipment, and Active Information Technology Equipment for the future Women’s & Children’s Tower. The tower seeks a new designation as a Level IV maternal care program—the highest level of maternity care in the state. The tower also enables the pediatric unit to become an adult inpatient unit for future growth.
The project was completed in at least three phases to minimize disruption and is significantly complex due to the inclusion of Advanced Diagnostics Center Suites, which were built in shell space in the existing Sky Tower. This portion of the Sky Tower connects to new underground parking beneath the Women’s and Children’s Tower. Keeping the entire facility open and in operation, complete with sufficient transportation and pedestrian access, was a major objective.
