Our Work
University of New Mexico Hospital Critical Care Tower
The University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) is a public teaching facility and the only Level I trauma center in New Mexico. It is also home to the state’s sole certified burn unit and designated stroke center.
Johnson was selected by UNMH to lead the overall planning and coordination effort necessary to develop and implement a transition and occupation plan for the nine-story Critical Care Tower (CCT), increasing the capacity and technology to care for those with the most severe injuries. This project, nearly 10 years in the making, included planning for the relocation of people, equipment, and departments as well the relocation of patient care units, patients and their families. UNMH and Johnson successfully transitioned operations while minimally affecting daily operations and also keeping the patient population safe and cared for.
The scope of the project was the largest hospital expansion project in New Mexico history and one of the largest in the nation. The state of New Mexico legally mandates that all new state buildings meet the LEED silver standard. The CCT is aiming for gold, the second highest distinction.
